Notes: I really didn't like the Pop album when it came out.
It took me a number of years to get into, it actually. But I still
went to see this tour because hey, it was a rare opportunity to see one of
my favorite bands. I bought a package ticket/bus trip tour from a
local radio station, and my friend Robin from work came with me. Our
seats were on the field, but kind of off to the side, so the view of the
stage wasn't the greatest, but the huge screen and lemon were so over the
top that you could see them well from any seat in the place. I
remember feeling a little disconcerted when they played old favorites in a
new way. I also remember a ring of spotlights around the perimeter of
the field, shining up towards the sky, creating a cone of light during
"Bullet the Blue Sky." About four years after this show I got really
into U2 again after several years of favoring Pearl Jam, and I gained a new
appreciation for this album and tour. I think the albums they've put
out since Pop have sounded a little too safe and recycled to me.
